Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park
Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park is just south of the one featured on the previous hike in Joaquin Miller Park. The redwoods are equally good, and the size is much greater (1,833 acres). This week’s hike features a trip to one of the highest points in the area and 150 foot trees. Also, unlike last week, this hike has transit accessibility on weekends, as well as weekdays, so that everybody can see the redwoods and hike.
Quick Notes
Distance: five miles
Elevation Gain: 476 feet
Difficulty: Easy
Type: Loop

Transit Accessibility
Take AC Transit line 54 to Redwood Road and Campus Drive / Sereno Circle. From there, walk up Redwood Road as it S-curves to Skyline Drive. (It is most walkable on the right / south side). Cross Skyline Drive on the left, and in a few hundred feet find a short, paved trail leading into the park.
Also, on weekdays, take AC Transit line 39 to Redwood Road and Skyline Drive and proceed as above.
Driving Directions
From I-580, take the Redwood Road exit to head east. Arrive at Skyline Boulevard and enter the park along the short, paved trail into the park.
The Hike
From the gate, turn right and follow the Dunn Trail through a grassy area. Turn right on the Golden Spike Trail, which will turn down before turning into a long, winding upward path. Turn left at the next fork onto the Montiero Trail, and right at the following one to the Dunn Trail. At this point, turn left to follow the Baccharis Trail along the ridge. By now, you will be surrounded by redwood trees. From here, go straight on the West Ridge Trail and in about one mile, you will reach Redwood Peak. The view here is not spectacular since you are still surrounded by trees. The trees, however, are beautiful and very healthy.
You have reached your destination by now. Turn back and walk the Redwood Peak Trail to resume walking along the ridge. The West Ridge Trail will intersect with the Graham Trail after a few hundred feet. From here, you can go west to a picnic spot for lunch, or east to loop back to your starting point and good views of the Bay along the way.
